A bobbin is a spindle or cylinder, with or without flanges, on which wire, yarn, thread or film is wound. Typically found in sewing machines and cameras.
- The term 'bobbins' is sometime used to express distaste. e.g. "that's a load of bobbins".
- A spool or reel that holds thread or yarn for spinning, weaving, knitting, sewing, or making lace.
- Narrow braid formerly used as trimming.
A bobbin can also refer to the plastic former in a transformer onto which the wire is wound around to form the windings. This plastic often has to have a UL flammability rating for safety reasons.
